Happy Hump Day!
While writing may be a thing of the past for some, journaling/writing still helps in many ways! Words are how God formed the world. Writing things out can help with memory, is an exceptional tool for personal growth, it can help with plans and problem solving and could definitely help with communication. In this week's Workshop Wednesday, we're looking closely on these one of these three points:
- Tips on Journaling
- Bible Study and journaling
- Self-Care Journaling
We'll focus on one at a time each Wednesday and after each blog post, I'll have a random question or suggestion and would love for you to participate! If you would help by sending an email in, answering those prompts, I'll feature your comment in one of the blogs and you can receive free stationery items! So without further ado!
I want to give just a couple Tips on Journaling. To have journaling work for you, it has to include what I mentioned above, and also: Consistency, Authenticity, and Style.
Consistency
Be consistent! Consistency is everything-- when you write, you can start out with one day out of the week or at the end of each day and take the time to sit, think and write! You can write out your prayers, your plans, your to-do lists, your goals matched to scripture- anything! Take the time to reflect and make the effort to actually sit still and THINK. These days are going by so fast, and times are changing swiftly before our eyes. Our children are getting older and this could be something that can pass down to them.
Authenticity
Be authentic, expressive, and honest. Regardless of anyone seeing it or not, spill out everything on paper. Being authentic helps form good character. Yes, most women of a certain age are already equipped with great character, but we always learn and develop skills for the changes in life. Ory Ery was made to encourage and uplift-- especially our young girls. Practicing authenticity is one of many skills that's beneficial for them. Fun fact: all the writing they may do in journals will prepare them for college life! (Tiny joke).
Style
Know your writing style! Are you the type of writer that needs prompts to help you express? Do you like to just free write? Does it help you to make a list or an outline about any and everything? Know what your style is and what helps you to flow. Prompts are self-explanatory; this could look like a journal with questions, or an intro of something about your day. The Encouraging Thoughts Journal is an example of a prompt type book you can use daily or randomly. Free Writing is another obvious type of style; this is a notebook where you just open to a page with lines, add your own title (optional) and just write. The Before you forget, sis! Write it down Journal is the perfect aide for those who like the freestyle writing, and it can be used for multiple tasks/writing.
I hope this helped a little bit, and I also hope that I will get some responses for this question:
If you're a journal person, do you like visuals (cute pictures, flowers, etc) or! are you more of a plain Jane gal? (lines only are fine with me!)-- I'm so curious to know!
